Cardiology (Heart and Vascular Center)

Beloit Health System's Heart and Vascular Center features comprehensive care for your healthy heart including prevention, diagnostics, surgery and rehabilitation. Our team of cardiology experts has a success record higher than the national average for cardiology procedures. The fourth floor of the hospital is now dedicated to cardiology health and includes a new area for all of Dr. Leo Egbujiobi's office visits.

The Cardiology Department performs invasive and noninvasive diagnostic testing that is required for analyzing cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Located on the fourth floor this department is also responsible for preventative and rehabilitation cardiology education programs. General diagnostic ultrasound and echocardiography are performed in this department. An array of diagnostic testing is performed under the direction of Board Certified Cardiologists and Internal Medicine Specialists.

Non-invasive tests for the heart include: Electrocardiogram, Regular Stress Testing, Nuclear Stress Testing, Echocardiogram Stress Testing and Echocardiograms.

General non-invasive ultrasound tests are also provided. These tests include ultrasound of the aorta, abdomen, kidneys, maternal gestation and biophysical profiling.

Vascular tests range from venous scanning of peripheral blood vessels, to diagnostic scansof the carotid arteries. Invasive Cardiology Tests performed at Beloit Health System include Cardiac Catheterization, Pacemaker Insertions, Electrophysiology Studies, Revascularization of Cardiac and Peripheral blood vessels, and Transesophageal Echocardiograms.

Cardiac Cath Lab

The Cardiac Catheterization Lab performs studies of the arterial blood vessels of the heart of the "plumbing" system. These diagnostic tests are performed using "dye" or contrast material which highlight the blood vessels and are "photographed" or stored in a digital image. The cardiologist then studies these images to determine if there are any blockages or other problems with the heart.

If this test reveals a blockage, most of the time "ballooning" (angioplasty) and/or blood vessel stenting can be achieved to correct this potential heart damaging situation. If the diagnostic test reveals the need for heart surgery, this can be scheduled with the Cardiovascular Surgeon and performed at Beloit Health System's hospital.

Following heart surgery or stenting, the Cardiac Rehab nurses provide you with consistent monitored exercise along with education about your condition. They will answer your questions and tell you what to expect post surgery or after heart procedures. The nurses also evaluate and help with medication reconciliation and diet education.
