Beloit Health System and the Stateline Family YMCA are partnering to improve your chances of preventing diabetes by offering a two hour Diabetes Prevention Event. This free presentation will be on Saturday, November 7, from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. at the Stateline YMCA on Riverside Drive in Beloit.
Dr. Richard Weirich, Endocrinologist with Beloit Health System, will speak on the topic of preventing diabetes. Over 79 million U.S. adults have pre-diabetes meaning that your body is resisting a hormone known as insulin that controls your blood sugar. With lifestyle changes in diet and exercise you can lower your blood sugars to prevent the diagnoses of full diabetes.
This is a very important topic because if people take action now, they can prevent the long-term effects and health changes that occur with diabetes,” states Ashley Hoverson, YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program Coordinator. “We hope people will come to this presentation to have the blood glucose screening and learn more about preventing diabetes.”
“If this two hour event can make a difference in preventing you from getting diabetes, then it will be the best two hours you ever spent,” Hoverson advises. The workshop is open to the public and everyone is invited.
Free blood glucose screenings will be offered, along with refreshments, giveaways, and valuable information. Registration is recommended by calling 608-365-2261. Walk-ins are welcome, as well. The Stateline YMCA is located at 1865 Riverside Drive in Beloit.
