Friday, July 08, 2011

Do you need to know more about Diabetes? If you have a family presence of this disease, have been told you have high blood sugars, or have several risk factors, you may want to attend this free seminar. Beloit Health System is hosting a new "Pre-Diabetes Basics" class on Wednesday, July 20 from 1- 3 p.m. for people who want to prevent or delay diabetes.

"If your fasting blood sugars are between 100 and 125, you are considered pre-diabetic," explains Barb Hough, RN and Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). "This group of people is in epidemic proportions considering this is an estimated 57 million Americans. There is a lot you can do now to prevent or delay this onset, so our goal is to help you in this effort."

You are at high risk if you are over 45 and: are overweight, have high blood pressure, are inactive, have family history, and have high blood sugars. The class will offer nutrition, health and lifestyle information with a registered dietitian, nurse, and CDE.

No reservations are needed to attend this event in Beloit Health System’s hospital auditorium. For more information please call 608-364-5138.
