What Health Hazards Are Faced by Travelers Abroad?

Any person traveling to a foreign country faces health risks not normally found in the United States. Of course, Americans traveling to Western Europe, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand are usually at no greater risk than at home. Many other countries however, pose an increased risk or likelihood of acquiring infectious diseases.

What Can Be Done to Protect the International Traveler?

Vaccines and medications exist for many of the diseases likely to be encountered by the traveler abroad.

Examples Include:

  • Yellow Fever
  • Malaria
  • Cholera
  • Typhoid
  • Hepatitis A + B
  • Japanese Encephalitis

What Will a Traveler's Health Service Consultation Include?

Utilizing regularly updated data supplied by the CDC and the State Department, we will provide you with:

  • An analysis by a physician of your travel itinerary for factors potentially affecting your health. It is not necessary to see your personal physician.
  • Recommendations on food, water, sanitation and insect problems of concern in many areas of the world.
  • A review of your past immunizations such as polio and tetanus, with updating as necessary.
  • Provision of immunizations that may include Yellow fever, Typhoid, Hepatitis and other vaccines appropriate to the itinerary.
  • Prescriptions for medication to help prevent malaria and treat traveler's diarrhea appropriate to the itinerary.
  • Advice on obtaining medical assistance while abroad and suggestions for managing your medications and medical conditions during travel.
